Giveaway for Lughnasa

To show my gratitude for all the blessings of the harvest, I will give the DVD Each Day in the Year of the Fire Dog to the first person to comment on this post. I am adding 3 postcards relating to Lughnasa today with more information below.

Lughnasa, aka Lammas, is the Celtic celebration of the first harvest, grains. Being one of the 4 fire festivals that is determined by the mid point between the Solstice and Equinox, it is celebrated over a period of several days, rather than exact moments like the Solstice. When I made these cards I was visiting my beloved Colorado so I used these vintage cards of Rocky Mountain National Park as the start of the card.

So, there is time to plan a wonderful gathering to share your blessings with bread!

July 15 is the birthday of a great painter, Rembrandt. It is also the anniversary of the first Buddhist Temple in the US, 1904, in Los Angeles. Meanwhile on that day in 1978 approximately 2000 Native Americans and their supporters participated in the "Longest Walk" from San Francisco. They entered Washington DC after a 5 month cross country walk to protest bills in Congress that limited Native Rights. About 20 people walked the entire way.
